In fact, the BBC's admirable Power Of Nightmares series showed al-Qaeda does not exist as the world-wide conspiracy presented by US policy-makers, with commanders, cells and "sleepers" in 60 countries.  In that sense, al-Qaeda is a figment of the imagination of Pentagon and CIA war gamers - but it is a mightily useful weapon for war. Not the war against terrorists but the real war against the common sense of voters - the shock and awe campaign against us.  They seek to dupe you and me into a state of permanent panic about the fantasy threat of terror striking on the Tube, or in my backyard in North Yorkshire.

Islamabad - A prominent official in the Afghan Taleban movement announced yesterday the death of Osama bin Laden, the chief of al-Qa'da organization, stating that bin Laden suffered serious complications in the lungs and died a natural and quiet death. On the day after the London Bombings, Robin Cook wrote in the Guardian:  "Al-Qaida, literally - the database, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians." Resignation Speech:  "I cannot support a war without international agreement or domestic support"

In the above circumstances it is reasonable to assume that Robin Cook would have severely criticised and totally destroyed any credibility of the first "Al Qaeda" video (released on the evening of Thursday 04th August) on his return on Monday 8th August,2005 if he had not unexpectedly died on Saturday 6th August, 2005.
